The Guardian Kempo Day Sheets contain almost all the information you need to know if you're in Guardian Kempo - but not everything you might want to know. Nor do the Day Sheets contain everything you might like to know to really master a subject. Also, not all members study Guardian Kempo. Soke will sometimes write articles on various subjects that explore an issue in greater depth. Also, Soke has been published in various magazines and written for other publications, and if some of those articles may be of benefit to members, those articles will be posted here as well.

If you are interested in these articles being posted in downloadable PDF format, email Soke.

Are You Breaking Yourself?

Many American martial artists in particular tend to damage their own body. It is not unusual for an American martial arts master in his 40s or 50s to be considered to be "slowing down." In fact, the age of 35 is often considered "masters" division, which is just a euphemism for "seniors." In some arts, the way they kick, backknuckle or block actually damages their own body. This article addresses the principle and some specific examples of training so we don't break our own bodies with our martial arts training.

This article explores the difference between Self Defense and a Criminal Act.

Gun Defense

This article deals with firearms in much greater detail than the Day Sheets. It is an important resource to help understand common problems in Gun Defense and why the Guardian Kempo techniques were created with the particular movements used. Also, especially important for those who have either studied other arts or know people who have - or for instructors - the article covers some common problems with Gun Defense that show up in other Self Defense systems.
